Usually just an accessory, the breast collar is mostly seen in the contesting crowd, but you can occasionally view it on a western pleasure or roping horse. The breast collar has a centerpiece that sits in the center of the horse's chest, and three straps merging from three different angles from the centerpiece. Two of these straps wrap around the horse's shoulders to attach to the top of the saddle, up beside the horn. The third strap goes down between the horse's front legs and attaches to the front girth (or just the girth on a western pleasure horse). When a tie down is used, the tie down strap goes under the breast collar centerpiece and attaches beside the breast collar, clipping to the girth.
This concludes the
Western Pleasure / Contesting Pictures ~ Tack series! Many thanks for reading! =-)
